The Digital Society initiative conducts multi- and cross-disciplinary research program centered on prospects and challenges of digitization in society. Digitization in interconnected networks – such as the Internet – as well as embedded in physical products, is today an inescapable and fundamental part of the entire social structure. Yet, studies of digitization are often shaped by existing research structures rather than by the requirements of the research object itself.
Consequently, The Digital Society research involves scholars from six faculties, engineering, social sciences, economics, law, humanities, medicine, as well as from the university library. Our vision is that the program will provide a scientifically sound basis for identifying and understanding the most pressing challenges and most prospective promises of the digital society, and result in formation of continued cross- disciplinary research programs.
